The Community for Academic Research and Development (CARD) is India’s first Multi-disciplinary Academic Research Organisation, conceptualised to respond to the evolving demands of knowledge production in an increasingly interconnected, complex and policy-driven world. Established as a not-for-profit research foundation, CARD seeks to redefine the traditional boundaries of academic research by fostering interdisciplinary inquiry, comparative regional studies, and applied scholarship that directly informs policy, governance, and societal development. Operating under the Community for Academic Research and Development Foundation with institutional vision to strengthen research ecosystems in India and South Asia. The Foundation is grounded in the belief that academic research must transcend disciplinary silos and geographical boundaries in order to address contemporary challenges such as digital transformation, climate change, governance deficits, social inequality, technological disruption and human rights concerns. CARD positions itself as a knowledge-building community, rather than a conventional research institute, emphasising collaboration, inclusivity, and intellectual plurality. Its institutional philosophy is rooted in the idea that sustainable development, democratic accountability, and innovation-driven growth depend upon robust, independent and ethically grounded research infrastructures.
